Altiora Finance — Terms of Service (TOS)

1. Purpose and Scope
Altiora Finance (“Altiora Finance,” “we,” or “our”) is a division of Altiora, a student-founded organization at the University of California, Santa Cruz (“UCSC”).
Altiora Finance exists solely to:
Provide financial-literacy education, research discussions, and market analysis for learning purposes.
Manage internal budgeting, fundraising records, and reimbursements for Altiora events.
Facilitate simulations, case studies, and paper-trading activities for educational development.
We do not operate as a financial-services business, fund manager, or investment adviser.
We do not make investment decisions, manage assets, or hold any fiduciary responsibility for any participant.
2. Non-Affiliation Notice
Altiora and Altiora Finance are independent, student-run initiatives.
They are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the University of California, Santa Cruz, the Regents of the University of California, or any official university department.
3. Educational Use Only
All content, presentations, spreadsheets, and communications produced by Altiora Finance are provided for educational and informational purposes only.
They are not intended as or to be relied upon for:
Investment, legal, accounting, or tax advice;
A solicitation or offer to buy, sell, or hold any security or digital asset; or
A recommendation tailored to any individual’s circumstances.
Every participant acknowledges and agrees that:
You make your own independent financial and investment decisions;
You assume full risk and responsibility for all outcomes resulting from your personal actions; and
Altiora Finance, its members, and affiliates bear no liability for any losses, damages, or consequences arising from your interpretation or use of our educational material.
4. Member Conduct
By participating in any Altiora Finance activity, you agree to:
Use shared information only for learning or internal club operations;
Respect the confidentiality of any internal financial data or research material;
Avoid presenting Altiora or UCSC as endorsing any investment, product, or service;
Comply with all university, state, and federal laws, including those governing securities and trading.
Any violation of these standards may result in suspension or permanent removal from Altiora Finance programs.
5. Internal Budgeting and Funds
All funds managed by Altiora Finance are Altiora operational funds (e.g., event budgets, merchandise, or approved reimbursements).
Member contributions may not be pooled or used for any investment or trading activity on behalf of others.
All financial transactions must follow Altiora’s internal accounting policies and UCSC student-organization rules.
Altiora Finance does not guarantee or warrant any financial outcome for any project, sponsorship, or event.
6. Disclaimer of Warranties
All services and related materials are provided “AS IS” and “AS AVAILABLE.”
Altiora Finance makes no representations or warranties, express or implied, regarding:
Accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of content;
Reliability, suitability, or availability for any purpose; or
Freedom from errors, interruptions, or omissions.
You acknowledge that all participation and reliance are at your own sole risk.
7. Limitation of Liability and Assumption of Risk
To the fullest extent permitted by law:
Altiora, its founders, members, and volunteers shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages arising from:
Reliance on any information shared by Altiora Finance;
Personal financial, trading, or business decisions made by any participant; or
Errors, omissions, or delays in educational materials.
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Altiora, its founders, officers, and members from any and all claims, damages, liabilities, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from your participation, actions, or reliance.
Total cumulative liability, if any, shall not exceed USD $100.
8. Intellectual Property
All materials, analyses, and tools created by Altiora Finance are the intellectual property of Altiora or their respective authors.
Members may use these materials only for personal learning and internal purposes unless written permission is granted.
9. Confidentiality
Certain documents (e.g., internal reports, proposals, or financial drafts) may be designated as confidential.
Members must not distribute, publish, or share such materials externally without written authorization from the Altiora Executive Board.
10. No Financial Accounts or Custody
Altiora Finance does not:
Maintain brokerage, crypto-exchange, or trading accounts for members;
Hold, manage, or transfer member funds; or
Execute or facilitate transactions on behalf of any person.
All financial activities are strictly virtual, educational, or simulated in nature.
11. Termination of Access
Altiora Finance reserves the right to suspend or terminate access to its resources for violations of these Terms or any applicable university, state, or federal policies.
12. Changes to These Terms
Altiora Finance may update these Terms periodically. Revised versions will be dated and posted. Continued participation after an update constitutes full acceptance of the revised Terms.
13. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
Any disputes shall be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Santa Cruz County, California.

We do not collect or request sensitive data (e.g., health, religion, race, bank or brokerage account numbers, or government IDs). Any such data submitted unintentionally is deleted upon discovery.
4. How We Use Information
All data is used solely to:
Manage internal budgeting, reimbursements, and club operations;
Coordinate educational workshops, simulations, and events;
Improve Altiora Finance communications and member experience;
Maintain security and compliance with UCSC student-organization requirements;
Respond to inquiries sent to finance@altiora.club.
We do not use data for commercial, marketing, or investment purposes.
5. Sharing of Information
We share limited data only when absolutely necessary:
Service Providers – Such as website hosts or analytics platforms that are contractually required to protect data confidentiality;
Legal Compliance – When disclosure is required by law, regulation, or court order;
University Coordination – When a verified UCSC office requests information to ensure compliance with student-organization policies.
We do not share, sell, or exchange any user data with advertisers, brokers, or marketing entities.
6. Cookies and Analytics
Altiora Finance may use privacy-respecting analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Framer, or Unfurly) to understand aggregate usage trends.
These tools may use cookies or similar technologies to collect anonymous session data such as device type and duration.
You can disable cookies in your browser settings without losing core site functionality.

7. Data Retention
We retain only what is operationally necessary:

Emails: Retained in the finance@altiora.club inbox until the inquiry is resolved or archived for continuity.
You may request deletion of your data by contacting us directly.
